Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach fire departments report high volumes of applicants

Itโ€™s a busy time of year for crews at both the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach Fire Departments, as leaders report an abundance of applicants are vying for jobs during the recruitment process. The MBFD confirmed on Friday that it saw roughly 450 firefighter and EMS applications between June 20 and July 7; the highest number the agency has recorded since 2008. Fire Marshal Christian Sliker told WMBF News he believes the high count comes from the agencyโ€™s โ€œeliteโ€ reputation. โ€œIโ€™ve been here for 20+ years, trending in the right direction of making our citizens and our visitors feel safe, especially when you have a population thatโ€™s growing. Whether itโ€™s 40,000 year-round or upwards of 20 million during the summertime, you need to provide the best possible service, and the MBFD does that,โ€ Sliker said.
