VIDEO: Horry County has officially broken ground on a new Fire Station Six, aiming to better serve the growing communities.
The current Station Six, located off Highway 917 in Loris, opened about twenty years ago. It serves the areas surrounding Loris and Finklea.
With a budget just under five million dollars, the county says the new station will help HCFR keep up with an increased call volume, as Horry County continues to see development and population growth.
โAs more people move out here, build more homes, we want to make sure we have the infrastructure and the roads to get there,” said Horry County Council Chair Johnny Gardner. โWeโre gonna make it a community.โ
The new station is within a mile of the current station. Fire Chief Joseph Tanner says the county strategically plans all fire station locations to be within five road miles of residents. HCFRโs call volume increased by almost 20,000 calls between 2020 and 2024.
