VIDEO: A fire broke out in the bushes in front of the Sears building at Haywood Mall on Wednesday afternoon. A WYFF 4 viewer’s video shows the flames. According to the Greenville Fire Department, a witness saw the fire and reported it around 1:34 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters arrived minutes later and started extinguishing the flames. Investigators said construction crews are working on the old Sears building at the mall, and all the workers were evacuated. Firefighters added that the fire broke out at a different part of the building than where crews were working. Officials said the mall was not evacuated, smoke never made it into the main part of the mall, and it is open for business. Once the fire was extinguished, crews stayed on scene to check for hot spots.
