Easley Fire Department improving emergency response times with new technology

VIDEO: An Upstate fire department is using new technology to tackle emergencies.

The Easley Fire Department is fighting fires with a new IDEX SAM control system. They said with it, firefighters can see how much water is in their fire truck, and how much of that they can pour on a fire.

Easley Fire Chief Brad Owen told 7NEWS having the system on hand is a game-changer thatโ€™ll help improve the departmentโ€™s response times and cut back on errors.

โ€œItโ€™s a management system. So, it actually controls the water flow. And, the firefighter here can actually step away and do some of the things that are necessary within that first five minutes. The first five minutes are very important when you do respond to a fire,โ€ said Owen.

The technology features a display screen that is attached to the fire truck, showing first responders the gallons of water they are using to fight fires in real time. There are also buttons at the end of the water hose firefighters can press to stop and release the water, and they can control the pressure automatically.ย
