Beaufort County teachers gain lifesaving skills in first responder training

VIDEO: Though itโ€™s something many Beaufort County educators said they hope to never have to put to use, many are taking steps to learn what to do in a medical emergency.

Around 10 people made up of staff, teachers and after-school caretakers with the Beaufort County School District made their way to Ladyโ€™s Island Middle School Thursday to participate in a first responder training class.

When asked why they were eager to take the class, Latoya Johnson, an after-school teacher answered, โ€œJust to, you know, have the knowledge of CPR, and drug training, and blood. Just to be informed about it.โ€

The group of educators gained that knowledge through a first responder training program sponsored by the Burton Fire District.

The training program gives them the tools to act when someoneโ€™s life is at risk. Drugs, blood, and oxygen are the three main priorities the program focuses on.
