5 displaced after fire in East Providence

VIDEO: Five people were forced from their home in East Providence after a fire at a three-story home broke out Saturday morning. Fire Chief Michael Carey said crews responding to Teofilo Braga Way just before 6 a.m. were met with heavy fire, with some flames coming from the home. Carey said there were people inside of the building at the time of the fire, most of whom evacuated themselves. One person had to be rescued by firefighters, according to Carey. The person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. At some point during the fire, there was a partial collapse between the second and third floor of the building, according to Carey. A mayday was issued for two firefighters who were trapped for a short period of time. Both firefighters were eventually safely removed from the building. There were also reports of pets inside the home at the time, but itโ€™s unclear how many at this time. Carey said the house appears to be a total loss and the fireโ€™s cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office.
