Two flown to hospital after propane tank explosion in Salem Township

VIDEO: Two people were flown to the hospital for burn wounds after a propane tank explosion in Luzerne County.

Salem Township Fire Department says they were called to Main Street in the Beach Haven section of Salem Township around 2 p.m. Monday after a 20-pound propane tank exploded in the yard at a home, leaving two of the residents with burns.

Fire crews put out the fire on the propane tank and also set up two landing zones for the two to be flown to the hospital. There is no word yet on their conditions.

According to Salem Police, the residents modified their riding lawnmower, cutting off the blade guard to have a bigger blade. While cutting the grass, the exposed blade hit the propane tank in the yard.
