Weeks of firefighting and increased rain have resulted in the two Michaux State Forest wildfires being 100% contained. As of 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, the Thompson Hollow Fire and the Hammond’s Rocks Fire are both at 100% containment. The Thompson Hollow Fire burned 2,248 acres, and the Hammonds Rocks Fire was 470 acres.
No personal property damage or physical injuries were reported. Those who were evacuated from the area can now return to their homes. Thompson Hollow Road from Shippensburg Road to Whitmer Road remains closed, as is Three Turn Road from Thompson Hollow Road to Ridge Road. The roads will remain closed until further notice. The Michaux State Forest Facebook page shared a message saying they were โgrateful for the outpouring of support received over the last two weeksโ during the fires. Residents are asked to remain away from burned areas as internal smoldering and smoke may continue.
