Legacy of bravery: Fire company in Monroe County marks centennial milestone

VIDEO: Since 1925, generations of first responders with the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company have been serving Mount Pocono Borough and Paradise Township in Monroe County. Fire Chief Logan Evans says a lot has changed since the first fire brigade, making this 100-year mark a huge milestone for a fully volunteer-run company. Chief Logan Evans of Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company says, “It’s really, we’re really proud of it. The volunteer numbers in Pennsylvania have dropped, unfortunately, by hundreds of thousands over the last 30, 40, 50 years, so to still be going strong, and we’re looking forward to the next 100 years.” The Pocono Mountain Carnival Grounds came alive this weekend as the community gathered to celebrate a century of service with live music, food, drinks, and fun-filled games “Yeah, it was, it was great we’ve had a ton of sponsors, a ton of community members really supporting us helping us celebrate this milestone, so we’re forever grateful,” says Chief Evans.
