Everybody loves a story with a happy ending – especially if it’s a duck tale. A York County fire company on Tuesday shared the story of how its members saved a group of baby ducks that got themselves trapped in a storm drain. Hanover Area Fire & Rescue said it was dispatched to a McDonald’s restaurant along the 1400 block of Baltimore Street at 7 a.m. after a concerned citizen noticed the stuck ducks and called authorities. Engine 79-2 responded to the scene, removed the drain cover and carefully lowered a firefighter inside to secure and rescue the ducklings, who were returned to their mother in a safer spot, the fire company said. The rescue took about two hours to complete. “We serve all our citizens – big and small!” the fire company’s post said.
