VIDEO/PHOTOS: A late-night fire tore through multiple townhomes in Lower Macungie Township. Lower Macungie Fire Chief Ryan Trexler says two people have been hospitalized and the fire has displaced seven residents. The fire broke out just after 11 p.m. Thursday night, in the 8000 block of Heritage Drive. According to the Lower Macungie Fire Department, 911 calls reported flames on the second floor of a home. When the first crews arrived, they say they found heavy fire coming from the back of a townhome. Multiple hand lines were deployed to battle the blaze, officials say.
During the containment, fire officials say a firefighter fell partially through a hole in the floor. Fellow firefighters say they quickly assisted, and the individual was evaluated on scene by EMS as a precaution. The fire, which crews say was contained just after midnight, damaged a total of three homes and forced seven people from their residences. On Friday, construction crews could be seen boarding up windows and working on damaged portions of the roof. Debris was also being cleared from inside the home until around 6 a.m. Friday morning.
The Lower Macungie Fire Department says they received support from Trexlertown, Greenawalds, Topton, Kutztown, Weisenberg, Woodlawn, and Allentown fire departments. Macungie Ambulance and Cetronia Ambulance also responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the fire chief.
