Woman rescued from submerged vehicle in Willamette River near Eugene

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to a dramatic rescue Sunday afternoon after a vehicle reportedly plunged into the Willamette River near Beltline in Eugene. According to ESF, emergency crews were alerted just after 1:30 p.m. on June 1, when callers reported that a vehicle had accelerated into the river with a woman trapped inside. Ladder 11 from the Santa Clara station and Boat 5 from the Gateway station were dispatched to the scene. ESF said in a press release that firefighters aboard Boat 5 successfully rescued the woman from the floating vehicle. The woman was then transported for medical evaluation. The rescue operation was supported by Lane County Sheriff’s drone and Search & Rescue teams.
