PHOTOS: Seven acres burned Tuesday after a tractor caught fire in Forest Grove, authorities said. Just before 2:30 p.m., Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said they responded to a field fire on Northwest Gales Creek Road, near Mystic Drive. According to the farmer, they had been using the tractor with a flail mower attached to cut wheat, and they looked back to see a fire where the mower connected.
When crews arrived, they said they found a tractor fully engulfed in flame and over an acre of field ablaze, threatening to spread to nearby houses. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm response, bringing additional units to the scene. While firefighters worked to stop the progress, officials said a neighboring farmer brought in equipment to create a dirt containment line around the perimeter. By the time the fire was out, officials said it burned an estimated 7 acres. Officials said it is unknown if the fire was caused by an equipment malfunction or a spark created by the mower.
