Response to house fire in Eugene hindered by large amounts of items outside house

Firefighters contained a fire in a Eugene home on Monday, but efforts to do so were severely hindered by large amounts of trash and other items inside and outside of the house itself, firefighters said.

According to dispatch records, several fire crews were dispatched to a home on Scenic Drive and Dean Avenue for a report of a house fire at about 11:31 a.m. on April 28. Dispatch records and firefighters on the scene said several crews comprised of a total of about 28 firefighters from the Lane Fire Authority and Eugene Springfield Fire responded to the fire.

Firefighters said they were able to contain the fire before it spread outside the house, but the house was severely damaged in the blaze. One person suffered minor smoke inhalation. Firefighters said their response was hindered by the large quantity of items within and outside of the house, with many rooms having stuff piled up to the ceiling. Firefighters said that without knowing more details about what exactly was in the house before the fire, it will be difficult to determine an exact cause.
