Two car fires in North Portland are โpotentially related to a string of suspected arsonsโ in the area in recent weeks, Portland Fire & Rescue told KOIN 6 News Tuesday night. The car fires happened a few blocks away from each other. One was near North Vancouver and North Failing while the other was a few blocks away, officials said. There is one suspect in custody, PF&R said, and is โcurrently being evaluated at the hospital.โ Earlier Tuesday, PPB asked the public for help to catch the suspect in multiple arsons near Irving Park over the last week.
Portland police are asking anyone living near Irving Park to review their security camera footage from July 20 and July 27, as they may have video footage of an arson suspect. The first arsons happened on July 20 and included a shed in the 700 block of Northeast Fremont Street, a trailer parked in the 3100 block of Northeast 8th Street, and a garage door in the 3600 block of Northeast 7th Street. On July 27, police said that several more arsons happened, including a fire that damaged a fence and shed in the 3900 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and one that damaged a vehicle in the 3800 block of Northeast 6th Avenue.
