Lithium-ion battery fire contained after ‘exploding’ on Portland State University campus

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Portland Fire & Rescue responded to reports of lithium-ion batteries “exploding” and catching fire on the fourth floor of the engineering building at Portland State University. Crews arrived on the scene and began investigating the incident.

The fire was reported extinguished shortly after crews arrived on the scene and began investigating the incident, with only a small amount of smoke remaining, according to Portland Fire & Rescue. Fans were requested to help remove the smoke from the interior of the building. A command officer directed a thorough search of the affected floor and the floor above to ensure nobody is impacted by toxic smoke.
