Firefighters halt Wells Road fire at 7-8 acres near Elkton with multi-agency response

Around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, crews from Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Elkton Rural Fire Protection, Kellogg Rural Fire District, and North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded to a natural cover fire near the 2400 block of Wells Road, near Elkton. Upon arrival, crews found an estimated 2 acres of brush and grass burning and spreading uphill. “The quick response from everyone involved, including landowners and DFPAโ€™s resources such as two type 2 helicopters, air attack, five type 6 engines, two type 3 engines, a dozer, ground crews, and overhead personnel, quickly knocked down the fireโ€™s forward spread,” DFPA stated. The final size of this fire is currently estimated to be 7โ€“8 acres. Crews will continue to line the fire and transition into mop-up. Once the fire is fully extinguished, it will be placed under patrol status. DFPA says the fire was human-caused and is under investigation.
