Around 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, crews from Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Elkton Rural Fire Protection, Kellogg Rural Fire District, and North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded to a natural cover fire near the 2400 block of Wells Road, near Elkton. Upon arrival, crews found an estimated 2 acres of brush and grass burning and spreading uphill. “The quick response from everyone involved, including landowners and DFPAโs resources such as two type 2 helicopters, air attack, five type 6 engines, two type 3 engines, a dozer, ground crews, and overhead personnel, quickly knocked down the fireโs forward spread,” DFPA stated. The final size of this fire is currently estimated to be 7โ8 acres. Crews will continue to line the fire and transition into mop-up. Once the fire is fully extinguished, it will be placed under patrol status. DFPA says the fire was human-caused and is under investigation.
