Fatal house fire in southeast Portland claims one life, cat missing

PHOTOS: One person died in a house fire in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood early Wednesday morning. At 3:45 a.m., Portland Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire in the 3300 block of Southeast 124th Avenue. When crews arrived, they found fire on the back side of a home, with smoke coming from all sides, officials said.

Just before 4 a.m., a firefighter found a person inside the home, and they were removed from the house. Despite life saving efforts from firefighters, the person was found to be deceased. Officials say the victimโ€™s cat is also missing and is possibly deceased. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
