VIDEO: The City of Coos Bay is receiving more than $13,000 to enhance firefighter safety, thanks to a grant awarded by the Three Rivers Foundation. According to city officials, the funds will be used to purchase wildland Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Coos Bay Fire Department. The new gear will be compliant with NFPA 1977 standards, which are designed to protect firefighters during wildland fire response operations.
This equipment upgrade is expected to significantly improve safety for personnel working in high-risk, rugged environments, especially as wildfires continue to pose an increasing threat across the region. Fire officials say the support from the Three Rivers Foundation will help ensure firefighters are better protected and more prepared during the upcoming wildfire season.
