Oklahoma City firefighter suffers injury while knocking out blaze at vacant motel

An Oklahoma City firefighter suffered minor injuries while working to put out a fire at a vacant motel that collapsed in a blaze.

Oklahoma City Fire Department officials said crews responded to the three-alarm fire at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday near the 700 block of South MacArthur Boulevard. At the scene, firefighters were met with a vacant two-story motel completely engulfed in flames.

Crews had to force their way to the building as the property was blocked by a โ€œchain-link security fence.โ€

Intense flames led to the buildingโ€™s structure to collapse, with firefighters forced to attack the fire from the exterior. One firefighter was injured while battling the fire, but officials described the injury as minorโ€

The building suffered extensive fire damage, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two other structure fires were reported overnight, including a vacant two-story apartment building in the 3600 block of Southwest 22nd Street that crews knocked out just before 9:25 p.m. Saturday.

The other fire was reported at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Northwest 20th Street, where a shed caught fire and spread to a home. Officials said downed power lines were found in the backyard of the property, which led to the resident of the home being woken up by โ€œloud poppingโ€ sounds and escaping before fire crews arrived on scene.
