Four pets are dead, one is missing, and a home was destroyed in a fire in Greene County on Saturday evening. According to the Xenia Fire Division, an off-duty firefighter and neighbor called in the fire in the 200 block of Colorado Drive at approximately 7 p.m. It was dispatched as a working fire.
When crews arrived, they faced heavy flames out in the front and the back of the home, and had to start fighting from the lawn. The homeโs occupant, Pat Beatty, 71, was in the home when the fire started, but she made it outside while crews arrived. She was treated on scene for a burn injury. The house was deemed a total loss, and the American Red Cross is assisting Pat with housing. Officials said three pets were declared dead on the scene, and two are unaccounted for. However, 2 NEWS spoke with Patโs daughter, Amy, who said she found another deceased cat on the scene. Meaning the only cat unaccounted for is a shy, one-eyed orange and white male cat named Meatball.
