Two firefighters hospitalized after being hit with falling debris in central Toledo blaze

VIDEO: Two firefighters were injured after being hit by falling debris at a large central Toledo fire early Tuesday morning. The blaze began just before 4 a.m. at 217 Lucas Street near South 13th Street.

According to TFRD, crews arrived on scene and reported heavy black smoke showing from a commercial building. “An attack crew began interior operations while additional units arrived to support the response,” Toledo fire said in a press release. TFRD said heavy fire was seen coming from the roof of the building, which was described as a series of connected, single-story commercial structures. A ladder truck began an elevated attack to fight the flames. TFRD said a partial roof collapse occurred and two firefighters were hit by debris, prompting all fire personnel to evacuate the structure and fight the fire from outside the building.
