VIDEO: The summer heat was not getting in the way of the firefighters who fought with a Pinehurst Circle house fire around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire began to spread from the breezeway before it traveled through the roof.
Once they began, the Liberty Fire Department put out a call to receive more help, because the conditions were difficult to handle. The extra units from around Trumbull County made it easier to chase the fire by substituting people who were trying to put it out. Aid was needed with the temperature still rising in the afternoon sun, and the fire adding more heat. โThe turnout gear is designed to protect us from the heat, but it also holds our body heat in. So as theyโre exposed to the heat and the gear heats up, their body core temperature heats up,โ Liberty Fire Chief Doug Theobald said. โIt was so hot we had several firefighters go down with heat-related exhaustion,โ Theobald added.
