VIDEO: Local first responders took their training to Fargo North High School on Wednesday, June 18. โAs a law enforcement agency, we have to be able to respond to a wide variety of different situations at a momentโs notice,โ said Ian Kristan, training sergeant for the Fargo Police Department.
The training session marked the first one of the summer, and itโs designed to help officers prepare for security, sheltering, and evacuation. โWeโll be working with EMS, the Fargo Fire Department, the West Fargo Fire Department, and the Moorhead Fire Department, as well as any other law enforcement agencies, on active killer response, or active assailant response, protocols, tactics, and techniques,โ said Kristan.
One of the key things that officers and firefighters focused on from the training was how well each agency spoke with each other. โThe big part of what weโll be working on is the communication with the other agencies. We want to work on getting in and extracting the patient as soon as possible,โ said Brett Petsinger, fire training captain at the Fargo Fire Department.
The training was broken down into different scenarios throughout the day. โThe first one is an all-agency incident. We start from the very beginning, and we work all the way until the end. For the second time block, we break into different groups so we have PD work on one side of the building and they work on more specific tasks and goals,โ said Petsinger.
