Winston-Salem Fire Station 6 receives restored 1912 Gamewell indicator for 100th anniversary

VIDEO: An important piece of history for one Triad fire station is back in working order, representing the legacy of generations of Winston-Salem firefighters. Over 100 years ago, the Gamewell indicator was the standard piece of equipment used in dispatching firefighters. Combined with fireboxes, they connected fire stations across Winston-Salem to the people and places that needed their help. Thanks to the efforts of one local company, Graybrooke Technologies, this piece of history is ready to continue the mission. “Just to hear it ring, it’s heartwarming,” said Captain Damien Poole of Winston-Salem Fire Department Station 6. For decades that signature ring was the call to action, but for the last few years, their indicator was just hanging on the wall at Station 6. “Captain Poole is a friend of mine,” said Josh Linville of Graybrooke Technologies.
