A person is receiving medical treatment after firefighters were able to get them out of a small apartment fire early Saturday morning in Durham, according to a spokesperson from the department. Durham firefighters were called to a structure fire around 5 a.m. on the 2800 block of University Drive. Upon arrival, the crews said they found a small fire with moderate smoke in one of the apartments. While searching that unit, the spokesperson said crews found one unconscious person and removed the patient from the apartment building. He went on to say that life-saving measures were used and the patient was transported to a nearby hospital. The spokesperson said the fire was quickly put out and damage was contained to one area inside the apartment unit.
