Jones County expands emergency services with new EMS station, EOC renovations

VIDEO: Jones County Emergency Services are celebrating expanded capabilities with a new EMS station and EOC renovations.

The Jones County community started Monday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new EMS station in Pollocksville. Emergency Services Director Ryan Mills says it will have an ambulance ready to go 24/7.

“We actually butt up to Carteret County, Craven County here in particular, and Onslow County,” Mills said. “So those outer edges of the county are very difficult to get to and take a while.”

Mills explained that the new station will decrease response time for those areas by approximately 10 minutes.

“I’ve worked with Jones County for 15 years, and being from this area, having the capabilities of this getting to my family quicker means a lot, and I know it’ll mean a lot to Jones County citizens as well,” Mills said.

One of those citizens is Frances Parker Hughes, who gave the land for the station to the county.
