Guilford County EMT reflects on Veterans Day as former combat medic

VIDEO: A Piedmont Triad veteran is using the skills he learned on the battlefield here at home to help save lives.

Jamahl Plunkett is a Guilford County EMT.

He spent nearly a decade in the Army as a combat medic. He said his mission to serve others continues in Guilford County.

Nine years in the U.S. Army as a combat medic taught Jamahl Plunkett how to keep calm under pressure.

Now, as a Guilford County EMT, Plunkettโ€™s life-saving instincts are back in action. For Plunkett, his transition from a combat medic to an EMT wasnโ€™t so hard.

โ€œItโ€™s kind of similar where you get that brothership, sistershipโ€ฆEverybody is here to help me out, help make my job a little easier,โ€ Plunkett said.

Plunkett joined the Army in 2016 and spent time stationed at Fort Bragg and was in Germany until 2024. When he left the service, he said his life outside the Army took some time to get used to.
