Firefighters responding to emergency call injured when truck overturns after collision in Smithfield

VIDEO: Several people were injured, including firefighters, after their fire truck was involved in a crash, causing it to overturn in Smithfield.

The collision happened on Monday while they were responding to a fire call.

According to early reports, the firefighters were responding with lights and sirens on and were hit by another driver at the intersection of Market and Seventh streets. The ABC11 news partner, the Johnston County Report newspaper is reporting that the driver of the other car may have pulled into the path of the truck.

The fire truck flipped on its side. The four firefighters inside were taken to the hospital. The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital.

The collision is still under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).
