Fire from propane tank explosion destroys Dare County home

VIDEO: One person was injured and a home on the northern part of Roanoke Island is a total loss Friday after a two-alarm fire caused by a propane tank explosion, a Dare County official said. The injured person was taken by Dare County EMS to Dare County Airport, and was then flown by Dare MedFlight to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, according to Steve Kovacs, deputy director of emergency management and fire marshal for Dare County. Three vehicles and one boat were also destroyed in the fire, and a neighboring home sustained minor damage, he said. Numerous 911 calls concerning a house explosion in a residential neighborhood on the north end of Roanoke Island came in around 3:15 p.m., Kovacs said. Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Dare County Sheriffโ€™s Office and Dare County EMS were sent to the scene, along with the Dare County Fire Marshalโ€™s Office and the North Carolina Forest Service.
