‘Fire everywhere’: Blaze destroys Harnett County home; 30 firefighters save house next door

PHOTOS: About 30 firefighters from eight different departments managed to save one home from fire, but the one next door in Harnett County was destroyed in a massive blaze Monday afternoon, officials said. The fire was reported around 11:50 a.m. Monday at 610 Tilghman Road, between Applejack Lane and Fairground Road, about a mile west of Benson, according to Chief Alan Johnson of the Benson Fire Department. When crews arrived, the home was โ€œfully involvedโ€ with heavy flames coming from the second-floor windows and gables, Johnson said. A home next door was threatened by the flames and crews stayed busy keeping it from catching fire as well, he said. The other home sustained damage to vinyl siding, but the interior was not damaged. An investigation is underway into the fire, but three people were in the house when it started, according to Johnson.
