VIDEO/PHOTOS: A massive scrapyard fire in Gastonia triggered a huge emergency response Monday afternoon, with around 30 agencies called in to help, including some from out-of-state. The blaze broke out around 3:30 p.m. at Metal Recycling Services on Highway 321 between Robinson and Crawford roads. Crews were at the recycling plant for about five hours as plumes of smoke filled the sky. Fire departments were called in from across Gaston County, as well as Cleveland County, and several from South Carolina. Gaston EMS set up a rehab station for responding firefighters, and one firefighter needed treatment for heat exhaustion.
