2 Raleigh families displaced after 2 house fires in 30 minutes; dog, cat rescued in one blaze

Fire crews battled two house fires that significantly damaged two homes in Raleigh early Saturday evening. The first fire was reported just after 6:30 p.m. at a home in the 2400 block of Bedford Avenue, which is off Oberlin Road in the Oberlin Village neighborhood. Several Raleigh firefighters responded to the scene, less than a mile southwest of Five Points. By 6:50 p.m., smoke was still seen coming from the home, although no flames were visible. Fire crews appeared to have cut a hole in the roof of the home. According to the Raleigh Fire Department Division Chief Jake Corker, there was โ€œa significant fire on the first floorโ€ of the home. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes but at least two people from the home were displaced, fire officials said. No one was injured. Just after 7 p.m., a fire was reported at a home in the 2700 block of Kempsford Place, in a neighborhood between N. New Hope Road and Southall Road.
