1 hurt in east Charlotte apartment fire, man charged with arson

VIDEO: One person was burned in an apartment fire in east Charlotte on Thursday, Medic confirmed. A man has been charged with arson in connection to the fire.

Multiple crews responded to a reported fire along Terrybrook Lane, just off East Sugar Creek Road and Eastway Drive around 9:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from a two-story apartment building. Charlotte Fire stated that its crew was able to get the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

One person was taken to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center for burns, Medic confirmed.

Matthew Scheiman was arrested on Thursday and charged with first-degree arson.
