Quick Action Saves the Day at Rye Gas Station Car Fire

A potentially catastrophic situation was stopped in its tracks, thanks to quick action from Rye firefighters โ€” and some support from neighboring jurisdictions. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday, the Rye Fire Department was dispatched to the BP Gas Station on Boston Post Road after receiving a report of a vehicle fire.

Fire crews encountered an SUV with a fully involved engine compartment fire located next to the building. A hose line was stretched, but because of the burning SUV’s close proximity to the building, support was requested from the Rye Brook and Larchmont Fire Departments, as a precaution. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the engine compartment. Crews checked the building for any fire extension and confirmed there was no fire damage.

“The Rye Police Department was on scene and assisted as needed. Fire units ensured that the business owner was fully informed before returning to service at approximately 8:07 p.m.,” fire officials said in a statement. “As always, the Rye Fire Department thanks its mutual aid partners and the Rye Police Department for their continued support in managing incidents safely and efficiently.”
