Oriskany Fire Department Celebrates 125 years

VIDEO: What do you do ifย you’veย been serving your community for the past 125 years? Ifย you’reย the Oriskany Fire Department, you throw a block party. On Saturday, the day kicked off with a parade, followed by an afternoon of food trucks, games, and live music. It was a way for the Oriskany Fire Department to thank the community for their support over the past 125 years. “We average about 400 calls a year.ย It’sย allย volunteer, so it ranges from EMS calls, to fires, to MVAs, to all kinds of things,” says Chief Jeff Burkhart of the Oriskany Fire Department. “We were established in 1900 and thought it was a good idea to not only celebrate ourselves but try and bring in some community members as well.” The Oriskany Fire Department is made up of volunteers.ย
