One cow died after a fire tore through a Niagara County barn on Sunday night.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received several calls around 8:10 p.m. Sunday about the fire, which happened at 3149 Lockport Road in the Town of Wheatfield. Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and located multiple structures on the property fully engulfed in fire.
Members of the Shawnee, Bergholz, Sanborn, Wendelville, and Niagara Falls Air Reserve Fire Companies also responded and helped put out the fire. The primary barn involved in the fire sustained “catastrophic damage and was deemed a total loss,” the sheriff’s office said.
Livestock were present in one of the structures at the time of the fire. Five cows escaped, but one died despite rescue efforts.
An investigation into the cause has been launched by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit.
