House in Canandaigua partially collapses in fire, killing dog

PHOTOS: Crews worked to clear debris on Wednesday morning after a house on State Route 21 in Canandaigua partially collapsed in a fire.

The fire happened at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday night, the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department says. When they got the report for the fire, they say they were at another scene, but immediately headed to the house on State Route 21.

The fire department says a dog died in the fire but the man inside the home escaped without injuries. The fire took about an hour to control. However, crews were at the scene for at least five hours putting out remaining hot spots.

The fire closed part of State Route 21 for awhile. News10NBC saw the Red Cross at the scene. Cheshire Deputy Fire Chief John Springer said Veterans Affairs was also called to help.

A friend said the homeowner was working to remodel the house. Thereโ€™s no word on the cause of the fire, as it remains under investigation.
