Crews battle brush fire in the Town of Henderson

VIDEO: A brush fire touched off quickly in Jefferson County, Monday afternoon, in the Town of Henderson. Henderson Fire Chief Spencer Stuckey says a volunteer firefighter was changing batteries in a trail camera off Whitney Road when he realized the area underneath his side-by-side was on fire. He called it in, and crews arrived within five minutes. Stuckey says they got the fire under control in about half an hour, but spent another hour and a half keeping hot spots under control. โ€œSo, where he was parked, the fire started in just a dry field that was mowed. It quickly spread to nearby cedar trees, and it spread to the unmowed field as well. Just all the dry areas out there,โ€ said Spencer Stuckey. Stuckey says just one spark can light a fire with the weather this dry. He says the fire was far from the road, so getting trucks back to it was a challenge. Mutual aid was called in for more side-by-sides, and a farmer helped with his tractor.
