Assemblywoman Buttenschon Celebrates First Responders in Utica

VIDEO: Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon continued her annual tradition of honoring local first responders in October.

Tuesday, on National First Responders Appreciation Day, Buttenschon held an awards ceremony recognizing local heroes.

Chiefs from fire, police and ambulance agencies across the Mohawk Valley were invited to nominate a member of their department who has gone above and beyond in service to others.

The appreciation day was established as legislation in 2019.

Buttenschon presented her New York State resolution officially proclaiming Oct. 28 as First Responders Day in the State of New York.

“We are here to honor those that serve us,” Buttenschon said. “Those that know, on generally our worst day, that they are there for us, and clearly it is exciting to see so many individuals that come from law enforcement, EMS, corrections.”
