VIDEO: Long Island officials say careless smoking caused a massive house fire that injured two firefighters in Nassau County.
The fire broke out around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday at a home on Pinetree Lane in Roslyn Heights.
According to Nassau County Police, responding officers upon arrival found the house fully engulfed in flames. All occupants in the home were evacuated prior to police arriving on scene.
Firefighters from Roslyn and neighboring fire departments quickly responded to extinguish the flames. The fire was put under control in about an hour.
Fire marshals say one firefighter while battling flames fell through the home’s roof. The firefighter was safely rescued and transported to a local hospital after suffering burns to his face. Another firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene.
