Around 15 people were displaced over Memorial Day weekend after a two-alarm fire tore through a Westchester apartment complex, fire officials said. The blaze broke out shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, at the Bari Manor Complex in Croton-on-Hudson, located off Old Post Road South, according to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.
Multiple calls to Westchester County Fire Control reported smoke and flames coming from the building. On arrival, firefighters confirmed the presence of smoke, prompting an immediate response from Croton fire units and several mutual aid departments.
Fire crews soon stretched 350 feet of hose from nearby hydrants to attack flames on both the ground and second floors. Firefighters also worked to suppress the fire in the ground-level unit—believed to be where the fire originated—while crews also tackled flames in the unit above.
With visible fire on two floors and heavy smoke conditions, the fire was upgraded to a “10-75” working fire and then to a second alarm, triggering a response from surrounding departments including Ossining, Yorktown, Montrose, Montrose VA, Buchanan, Peekskill, and Lake Mohegan. Firefighters completed searches of the building and extinguished all visible fire within a short period. No injuries were reported to civilians or fire personnel.
