One person found dead after Concord apartment fire; multiple displaced

VIDEO: One person was found dead after a fire Tuesday night at an apartment building in Concord, officials said. According to the state fire marshal, crews responded around 6:30 p.m. to 151 Manchester St. for a report of a fire on the building’s second floor with a person trapped inside. “The first arriving engines, when they arrived, there was heavy fire coming out of the front of the building part that you see behind us, as well as the backside of the building,” said Concord Fire Department Chief John Chisholm.

The Concord Fire Department, along with crews from surrounding communities, worked to extinguish the flames. “Just kept getting more traumatic for firefighters rushing to try to get in and put the fire out, and kept watching,” said witness Tim Katsigiannis. A woman was found dead on the second floor. The identity of the person is being withheld pending an autopsy. Multiple people were displaced by the fire, including Krystal Turner, who told News 9 she lost everything in the fire. Her cats were rescued. “I’ve lived in this apartment for nine years and nothing ever bad happened,” said Turner. “However, the fact that I’m safe, they’re safe. Things can be replaced.” No other injuries were reported, including among firefighters. Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
