A fire Monday morning forced the temporary closure of The Old Salt and Lamieโs Inn on Lafayette Road in Hampton, New Hampshire, according to a social media post from the inn.
According to Hampton Fire/Rescue, crews responded to the scene at 490 Lafayette Road around 7:30 a.m. and urged the public to avoid the area while they worked to extinguish the fire. The Old Salt and Lamieโs Inn team said everyone is safe and thanked first responders for their quick action. The business announced it will remain closed on Oct. 13 to facilitate cleanup and assessment, but it plans to reopen as soon as possible.
“We are so touched by the outpouring of support and concern from our community,” the post stated. “We canโt wait to welcome you back through our doors soon.” This isnโt the first time the business has been affected by fire. In 1999, a blaze at Hampton Beach destroyed the original Old Salt restaurant after flames spread from a nearby building, damaging several others.
The owners quickly reopened at a temporary location before moving the restaurant to Lamieโs Inn in downtown Hampton in 2001, according to the inn’s website. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
