Reno police search for suspect in hit-an-run amid uptick in illegal sideshows

Police continue to search for the suspect in a hit-and-run that took place early Sunday morning at the intersection of Meadowood Lane and Riggins Ct. It is an area unlikely to have a lot of people around late at night over the weekend, making it an ideal spot for illegal sideshows. โ€œThe sideshows, they tend to move to different parts around the city,โ€ said Officer Chris Johnson of the Reno Police Department. โ€œTheyโ€™ll start in one location and then theyโ€™ll move to another location, whether itโ€™s a big open lot, an intersection, or somebodyโ€™s private property.โ€ Sideshows are when crowds of people watch while cars spin donuts, something that is often coordinated through Instagram stories under the handle @775sideshows. Johnson says sideshows were a constant issue in 2022 and 2023. but there were none in 2024.
