PHOTO: The Reno Fire Department (RFD) has unveiled a new heavy rescue vehicle, enhancing its capability to respond to urban search and rescue emergencies.
The vehicle, approved by the city council in 2022 as part of the city of Renoโs apparatus replacement plan, replaces a 39-year-old predecessor.
“Weโre excited to have a new heavy rescue vehicle at the Reno Fire Department as our crews will continue to be equipped with important, life-saving tools,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “This new vehicle reflects the Cityโs commitment to supporting public safety and prioritizing keeping our community safe.”
The heavy rescue vehicle, equipped through a partnership with Makita Tools, carries specialized tools and equipment essential for technical rescues, emergency medical services, structure fires, and search and rescue operations. It features a custom-built Heavy Apparatus by Rosenbauer, marking it as the first of its kind in northern Nevada.
