Care Flight, Truckee Meadows Fire meet for joint training exercise

VIDEO: First responders with Care Flight met Truckee Meadows Fire crews outside of their headquarters on Barron Way on Tuesday for annual collaborative training. The training area was set up to mimic a typical scenario where crews need to break into a burning building, and stay low while saving someone.

โ€œWhat we set up here is our engines responding to a structure fire that had known victim rescues,โ€ said Rob Harper, EMS Coordinator for TMFR. โ€œSo our crews showed up, they have to make entry, force entry through the door in all their PPE and protective equipment.โ€ Mannequins are used to simulate victims with different injuries and medical conditions and are loaded into ambulances as part of the training.

โ€œAs long as we are collaborating, communicating, using good crew resource management, and utilizing tools that we have in a resource depleted environment and getting our patients safely to the transport destinations that they need to be, thatโ€™s the whole goal behind the training,โ€ explained Eric Aguilera of Care Flight.
