2 hikers rescued from Mount Rose area

VIDEO: Two hikers had to be rescued in separate incidents on Sunday. In the first rescue, units from the Washoe County Sheriffโ€™s Office were called to the Ophir Creek drainage for an injured hiker. The hiker was safely extricated from the backcountry and taken to a local hospital.

Later that same evening, two units were again dispatched to the Mount Rose Summit Trail for reports of a hiker in distress. Crews helped the hiker get back to their car without further incident. The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District says anyone who travels the backcountry should be aware that trail conditions are changing rapidly, with snow and ice now present in many areas.
