VIDEO: Firefighters put out massive fire in southwest Houston

Many local businesses could be a total loss after a large fire in southwest Houston. It started just before midnight on Friday near the Southwest Freeway and Fountain View. More than 18 hours later, crews were still putting out hotspots and a HazMat team was monitoring the air quality. The HazMat team was there because of a pile of tires that burned in the fire.

The businesses heavily impacted include a wheel and tire shop and a rug store. The tire shop has been operating in this part of Houston since 1989. We spoke with the ownerโ€™s son and he says theyโ€™re thankful that nobody was hurt, even though he and his family operating the business will have to recover from the loss. โ€œWe just kind of try to relax, take it one step at a time but itโ€™s really surreal, definitely shocking to see all that hard work go up in flames,โ€ said Christopher Leon with Rolloโ€™s Solutions. โ€œBut weโ€™re trying to take it one step at a time and see whatโ€™s next.โ€

HFDโ€™s arson division will be investigating the cause, which is still unclear right now.
