TEEX hosts 96th annual 2-week fire training school at Disaster City in Texas

VIDEO/PHOTOS: TEEX is hosting its annual fire training school at Disaster City, starting this week. The two week-long event brings firefighters and other first responders together from Texas and beyond- even from other countries.

Firefighter Lilia Ayala from the Converse Fire Department has attended the last six years of TEEX fire trainings. โ€œI think, even if these types of calls donโ€™t actually [happen], if you never come across them in your career- the fact that thereโ€™s something dynamic going on and challenging and you have to stay calm under pressure- absolutely helps you out on any calls,โ€ shared Ayala.

The two weeks donโ€™t just provide opportunities to train but also allows the first responders to network with one another. TEEX Fire Training School Division Director Chris Angerer told KBTX thatโ€™s one of the main reasons the training session is around. โ€œWe host events like this so that we can bring pools of talent together. So, we have an array of guest instructors out here this week who are sharing their knowledge, their skills, and their abilities with firefighters from all over the state,โ€ he explained.

More than 700 firefighters and first responders can attend 30+ courses and different trainings including rescues, hazardous material response, and fire pump operations. All of these opportunities can come in handy for real life emergencies.
